About Us

Becoming a Parishioner

Welcome to the Cathedral of St Patricks and St Josephs, the mother church of the Auckland diocese, and the Auckland Inner City parish.  You may want to know more about becoming a Catholic. Or you may be a Catholic looking for a parish to call home. All are welcome!

An important part of the Cathedral’s life is welcoming new catholics.

The programme of adult formation in the faith is known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).

It is a wonderful series of steps and stages that can lead to Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist (Communion).

Usually adult Baptisms (or ‘Reception’ if you were already baptised in another Christian denomination) take place at the great Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday night. It is a wonderful and moving ceremony that coincides with the first Mass of the Resurrection for Easter Sunday.

You can join the RCIA at any time. There is a course currently underway ~ enquirers are welcome and we would like you to know that there will be no pressure to sign up. We take you as you are and go at your pace!’

For further (no obligation) enquiries, please contact our Parish Pastoral Coordinator via the Cathedral Office.
